Having already brought back Halloween And The Exorcist for modern audiences, Blumhouse may have found its next horror reboot in the form of My dear love. The original 1981 Canadian slasher cult classic revolved around a small town being terrorized by a miner in revenge for the deaths of other miners during February break. The film would later receive a 3D remake in 2009 from Driving angry duo Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer, which garnered much better reviews than the original and was a box office success, grossing over $100 million on a production budget of $14 million.


Bloody disgusting reports that Blumhouse has begun development of a new My dear love movie. At the time of writing, no director, writer, or story details have been revealed for the reported reboot, which comes 15 years after the franchise last appeared on screen with the 3D remake of the same name from 2009. If these reports prove true, it would mark the latest Blumhouse property to be revived for modern audiences, particularly for the horror genre after Halloween And The Exorcist: Believer before that.


Can My Bloody Valentine fix the Blumhouse reboot’s missteps?


Having first made a name for itself with independent horror projects, Blumhouse has continued to build a reputation for reviving classic horror properties in recent years, especially starting in 2018. Halloween. In addition to producing a complete trilogy for the Michael Myers franchise, the studio also re-teamed with that film‘s co-writer/director, David Gordon Green, for a Exorcist legacy sequel, which was also planned for a trilogy. Those plans, however, remained unclear when Green left after a mixed reception. Believeralthough Mike Flanagan is in talks to direct the next installment.

However Believer and the Halloween the sequels were not true financial failures for the studio, they received largely negative reviews from critics and mixed reviews from audiences, who resented the successful 2018 formula. Halloween had not transferred to these other films. Even some of their lesser known horror revivals, namely Fantasy Island And Fire starterfailed to generate the same fanfare as some of their original franchises, notably The purge And Insidious. Although nothing is official yet regarding My dear love reboot, if Blumhouse were to move forward with the project this could be part of their upcoming slate which could of course correct their reboot missteps. Later this year, Leigh Whannell’s strikeout will bring werewolf reboot, something with a lot of anticipation after its Invisible Man success, while the studio’s previous success in the found footage genre with the Paranormal activity the films created some hope for their Blair Witch project. If Flanagan also closes the deal to make the new Exorcist movie, a My dear love The reboot could be one of Blumhouse’s many promising horror updates, especially looking back to the 2009 film.
