Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo provide an update on Guy Ritchie’s live-action Hercules. The film was first announced in summer 2022, although details have since been scarce, with Joe Russo sharing in late 2022 that development had already begun and teasing that it would be experimental and inspired in some way. ‘another by TikTok. Recent remakes of iconic animated films like Mulan, PinocchioAnd The little Mermaid, for the most part, they underperformed at the box office and received poor reviews. Disney’s latest remake, 2023 The little Mermaid, barely broke even and earned a 67% critic rating and a 94% audience rating on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes. While the numbers aren’t that disappointing, especially the public reaction, they don’t accurately represent the numbers we usually associate Disney with. Despite some of these recent difficulties, Ritchie’s live-action remake of Hercules has the potential to turn the situation around. The director already has experience translating a beloved animated film into a live-action remake with 2019’s . Aladdin. Although the film was not a success with critics, earning a 57% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, it received a 94% from audiences and grossed $1 billion worldwide . In addition to the box office gross, these figures are reminiscent of those for 2023. The little Mermaid in the sense that even though the critics didn’t seem to like it, the audiences did.
