A few months before the release of its expected sequel, the endearing Wonder enjoys new success on Netflix, since it appears in the streamer’s top 10 films in the United States. The 2017 coming-of-age film was an adaptation of RJ Palacio’s 2012 novel of the same name and starred Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, and Jacob Tremblay. Wonder enjoyed strong critical and box office success, earning an 86% critical score and an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and earning $315 million worldwide on a budget of just $20 million . Now, the film‘s success continues on one of the biggest streamers.

One character in particular, Julian, a character who has his own spin-off, is particularly nasty towards Auggie, being the main catalyst for Auggie’s tribulations.

A lot of wonders the success may be due to the talent of the cast, including Roberts, but The important factor, besides its delicate subject matter, is director Stephen Chbosky. Chbosky is best known for writing the original bestselling book and for writing and directing The perks of Being a Wallflower. No stranger to faithful adaptations, Chbosky was able to channel that same energy into Wonderremaining faithful to Palacio’s work while adapting it to a new medium.
