Latest OnePlus Pad 2 leak hints at a powerful upgrade

TL;DR

  • The OnePlus Pad 2 could be equipped with Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
  • We can expect the OnePlus Pad 2 to launch in the second half of 2024.

After surprising the market with a strong debut with the much-loved OnePlus Pad, OnePlus could be aiming for Samsung’s dominance in the high-end Android tablet space. If early indications prove true, the upcoming OnePlus Pad 2 could finally fill the void of a true Galaxy Tab competitor in the Android tablet market.

Technical journalist Max Jamborwhich previously hinted at a OnePlus Pad 2 launch in the second half of 2024, has now revealed that the upcoming tablet will run on Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This powerful processor powers 2024’s high-end smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and will also power the upcoming Galaxy Tab S10 series.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 represents a significant leap over the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 found in the original OnePlus Pad. A flagship chipset could pave the way for other interesting upgrades, such as a possible move from an LCD screen to an AMOLED panel – a feature of Samsung’s high-end tablets.

While these upgrades could result in a higher price for the OnePlus Pad 2, the company could still find a way to offer attractive value compared to Samsung’s offerings. Alternatively, OnePlus could mirror its smartphone strategy and launch a more budget-friendly ‘R’ variant of the OnePlus Pad 2. For now, we can only speculate.

The OnePlus Pad 2 is expected to launch in the second half of 2024, potentially right after Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S10 series, which is expected to be announced in July.
