UPDATE: Jim Carrey Returns in Sonic The Hedgehog 3, New Cast Members Revealed

Update, 2/2: In addition to the return of Jim Carrey in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, IGN revealed some of the film‘s new cast members. We’ve listed the names below, although it’s not yet clear what roles they will have.

Even though Dr. Robotnik appears to be on the verge of death at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Carrey seems pretty determined to retire from acting after the film‘s release in 2022, a new teaser says otherwise. The official Twitter account for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has revealed a short promotional video, embedded below, revealing the Sonic 3The logo of (which is pretty much the logo of Sonic Adventure 2) with Carrey’s distinctive Robotnik laugh at the end. The message of the post “You all thought I was gone, but I just went into hiding. What you saw of me is only a shadow of things to come…” is also quite telling .

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hits theaters on December 20. Jeff Fowler once again sits in the director’s chair and the returning cast includes Ben Schwartz (Sonic), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski), Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Tails) and Idris Elba (Knuckles). The Shadow actor has not yet been revealed.

Before the third film arrives, a live-action spinoff series starring Knuckles will launch on Paramount+ this year. As if 2024 wasn’t already looking good for Sonic, we recently learned that it was the year of the Shadow with the reveal of a new game, Sonic x Shadow Generations. Additionally, Sonic Superstars receives a Shadow costume.
