Apple Vision Pro is so new that we haven’t even done our review yet. But Apple is wasting no time moving from the version of visionOS that came with the device (already updated to 1.02) to the next major revision.

We expect visionOS 1.1 to include features primarily aimed at app developers, although we know it will include MDM (Mobile Device Management) for enterprise device management and could also include other features aimed at users . We don’t know when to expect a final version of visionOS 1.1, although late February or early March seems like a good bet.

Updated 02/13/24: The second beta version of visionOS 1.1 has been made available to developers.

What’s new in visionOS 1.1

MDM (mobile device management): Businesses will find it easier to manage workplace users with support for account-based sign-up, app installation, managed Apple IDs, network configurations, single sign-on , support for Exchange and Google Workspace, and much more.

Reset the device: If you forget your Vision Pro password, you must take it to an Apple Store to have the device reset. 9to5Mac has discovered code suggesting that users will be able to reset their device after multiple failed password attempts. Activation Lock is always active, which means it can only be reconfigured with the previously used Apple ID and password. This feature first appeared in the visionOS 1.1 beta, but was later included in the general visionOS 1.0.3 release.

Application location: Developers can create apps that allow users to position scenes and volumetric objects closer to the user, according to Apple’s developer release notes.

Checking the iMessage ignition key: This release adds support for verifying iMessage contact keys.

People update: After installing visionOS 1.1, users will be prompted to recapture their Persona, which will use the latest version of the technology for a somewhat improved image.

visionOS 1.1: how to install the public beta

We don’t yet know if Apple will have a public beta program for visionOS: there’s no public beta option yet, but the device is brand new. We hope it works like it does on other Apple devices.

You will probably join the beta by opening Settingsby selecting GeneralSO Software updates. In the Beta Updates section, choose visionOS public beta.

You’ll need to be registered as an Apple developer, but you don’t need to participate in the $99-per-year developer program to access the developer beta; a free developer account will do the trick.
