1Password adds recovery codes in case your account is blocked

Forgetting your 1Password account information just got a little less scary.

The popular third-party password manager announced Thursday that it adds “Recovery Codes”. These are special codes that can be used to recover your account if all other options fail. This is a new option for people who have forgotten their passwords and can no longer access their data, but it’s not an option that 1Password will automatically manage for you.

1Password adds recovery codes

As the 1Password blog post points out, setting up a recovery code is up to you, the user. In the 1Password app, search for “Manage Accounts,” then “Sign in and Recovery,” then set up a recovery code from there. Above all, you will want to copy or write down the recovery code and make sure it is kept in a safe place.

Once you have the code, it should be a valid way to log into your 1Password account directly from the 1Password website. It’s also reusable, which is nice. I hope you never have need however to use it.
