For Argy Actor John Cena is hopeful that the spy thriller will lead to multiple sequels and spinoffs. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, For Argy tells the story of introverted novelist Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) as her real life begins to parallel the events of her popular spy novels. While the film primarily focuses on Elly’s fall into the world of real-world espionage, the story also brings to life sequences from Elly’s novels, featuring the adventures of Agent Argylle (Henry Cavill) and his allies Wyatt (Cena) and Keira (Ariana). DeBose), and the enigmatic LaGrange (Dua Lipa).

By speaking with Looper, Cena discussed the possibility of future sequels and spinoffs. There are already sources for stories that would focus more on Agent Argylle., as the first of several For Argy novels was published last January, focusing on the exploits of the eponymous spy. This fits with the fact that Vaughn wants to tell this story in a film tentatively titled Book onewhich would be done before Location 2. Read Cena’s comments below:

I hope the world says yes, and that means they go see “Argylle” and enjoy “Argylle.” I know Matthew Vaughn has a plan and I hope he is able to execute it. I think he has more than just one movie in mind, so I hope audiences around the world enjoy “Argylle” and I hope we can get the band back together.

Why Argylle Sequels and Spinoffs Might Not Happen

Despite Vaughn’s ambitious plan and Cena’s enthusiasm, For Argy box office bombing and lackluster critical reception can prevent any future consequences or fallout. For Argy cost $200 million to make, but only grossed $18 million domestically and $35 million worldwide in its opening weekend. Unless its box office rebounds dramatically in the coming weeks, the film will fail to break even, let alone turn a profit, which will prove to be a dud for both Apple and Universal, although this is one of the most high-profile theatrical releases of February.

Some films that performed poorly in their opening weekends, including Pixar’s Elementary, have been able to make huge strides at the box office over the past few weeks, thanks in large part to positive reviews and good word of mouth. Between scathing criticism and current critical score of 34% on Rotten Tomatoes, For Argy it is unlikely that it will benefit from the rebound that Elementary and other initial box office disappointments experienced.

Elementary grossed nearly $500 million worldwide, although it only grossed $29.5 million domestically and $44.5 million worldwide in its opening weekend.

If Vaughn manages to get the chance to make a sequel, his franchise may still have a chance to come true. A sequel focused on the origins of Agent Argylle adapted from the already published The novel could find more mainstream appeal, especially given Cavill’s enormous popularity. This sequel probably won’t happen unless For ArgyBox office improves considerablyas it is unlikely that studios will invest in future content that will meet with extremely poor financial and critical reception.
