Disney confirms plans to reduce number of Marvel movie and TV series releases

However, with Deadpool & Wolverine the only MCU film currently on the schedule this year, and only one other live-action series, Agatha, currently known to be released in 2024, it appears that Marvel Studios’ release pattern is slowing down – and Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that this was completely intentional.

Speaking during Disney’s second quarter earnings call, as reported by The Hollywood ReporterIger said: “I have worked hard with the studio to scale back production and focus more on quality, this is especially true with Marvel.

“And we’re working hard on that path, we’ve got a few good movies in 2025, and then we’re moving towards more Avengers, which we’re extremely excited about.

“Overall I feel good about this roster, it’s something I’ve committed to spending more and more time on, the team is one I have tremendous confidence in and ownership intellectual that we exploit, including all the suites that we what you do is second to none.”

Despite these slowdown plans, barring any delays, 2025 is still shaping up to be a big year for Marvel, with Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four and Blade all currently on the docket for this year.

As Iger says, two new Avengers films are also in the works, currently planned for 2026 and 2027, although no director has yet been set for either film.
