Original Jurassic World 4 director breaks silence on his withdrawal from the sequel

As the sequel moves forward with Gareth Edwards, David Leitch explains why he left directing Jurassic World 4. While the film marks the fourth installment of the Jurassic world film series, it would introduce a new era in the whole jurassic park franchise. As a result, none of the franchise’s previous characters are expected to return, and this will introduce a new story that has yet to be revealed. Shortly after the new film was confirmed, it was revealed that Leitch was in talks to direct it, but was quickly followed by news that he had left the film, sparking curiosity about its release.

By appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Leitch discussed his exit from Jurassic World 4. His exit was not forced, as Leitch confirmed that he had the “privilege” decide for himself whether he wants to direct the film or not. He considers it a well-deserved right for experienced directors to be able to reject films based on what they feel is best for them and the film. This is why he felt his departure from Jurassic World 4 was the best option for himself and for the film. Check out his statement below:

We have the privilege of choice and it’s intimidating. And it’s true though, and we’ve kind of earned it, in terms of the films that we’ve made and the successes that they’ve had, and hopefully continued success, but when you’re asked to be in these worlds, you want to take these conversations seriously and we’re creative in finding our way through a lot of things. So it was a really good conversation to have, to be in talks with Steven and Frank, about this franchise that is so dear to us, it was a really beautiful moment. Ultimately, you have to do what’s best for the film in question and do what’s best for you as an artist.

And make sure you’re making the same movie, and you can do it in the settings, and at one point we just said – we wanted to give this answer quickly because they need to make this movie quickly and everything the world is happy to do it. you see, and I think they landed, obviously, on a brilliant director, who we love and respect and… it’s going to be amazing. [Turning down Jurassic World 4 was] surreal, but I believe we deserved this position [to turn it down]. And we have the privilege of being able to choose the films that we want to make, and we want to make sure that we have the creative freedom to make those films the way we want.

What the Jurassic World 4 creative team looks like now

Leitch’s statement confirms earlier reports that his Jurassic World 4 the exit was amicable. Although there were hints of creative differences, as he mentioned the importance of having creative freedom as a director, it appears the studio respected his decision. Although its release initially sparked concerns about the film‘s progress, it didn’t take Jurassic World 4 it will be a long time before we find another talented director in Gareth Edwards. Ultimately, deviations from films due to creative differences don’t always mean something negative, because Jurassic World 4 still managed to assemble an entire creative team, while Leitch is content to exercise his right to work on the films of his choice.
