I love this $59 retro handheld console and can’t wait to try its all-new Atari and Technos flavors.

Retro hardware brand HyperMegaTech has unveiled two new licensed handheld consoles featuring games from Atari and Technos respectively. New versions of the existing Super Pocket handheld console, the Super Pocket Atari Edition features 50 classic games while the Super Pocket Technos Edition comes with 15 titles from the developer.

The Atari Edition comes in a striking red and black design, and the Technos Edition is a cool combination of bright blue and grey. Both handhelds cost $59 / £49 each, making them a very affordable option for those interested in retro gaming. If you have a little more to spend, there’s also a special limited edition Super Pocket Atari to look out for, which comes in an exclusive wood-grain color scheme. It’s limited to 2,600 units, likely a nod to the Atari 2600 console’s name, and costs $69 / £59. Pre-orders are set to open today.

Of these two models, it was the Techno Edition that definitely managed to catch my attention. Its 15 games include titles like Double Dragon And Double Dragon 2: Revengenot to mention the beloved River City RansomThat’s not to say there aren’t some real hits in the Atari edition’s larger game library, which features titles like Missile Command, Pong, Asteroids, And Super Breakout among others.

Better yet, you’re not limited to the games included in the box, as the Super Pocket is fully compatible with Evercade cartridges. With hundreds of cartridges already available, this gives you the opportunity to expand your collection at a low cost with everything from modern indie titles to even more classic games.

I was very impressed with the Super Pocket when it launched in October 2023, where it was available in either a Capcom Edition or a Taito Edition. I gave it a glowing five out of five stars in my Super Pocket review, calling it “nothing short of a triumph in almost every way.”

I recently updated the review with a new perspective after continuing to use the handhelds since that launch period and have consistently concluded that “there is simply nothing else on the market right now that offers this level of performance” for this affordable price.

The Super Pocket has also been part of our guide to the best handheld games consoles for some time now and the introduction of even more options to choose from can only be a good thing in my opinion.
