Alleged iPhone 16 case leak corroborates major camera design change rumors

A user on X (formerly Twitter), @SonnyDickson, has published images of what it claims are the “first iPhone 16 cases” and they feature the same design changes that have already been rumored. (Note that these are for standard iPhone 16 models, not Pro variants.)

As you can see, the most notable part of the image is that the camera cutout is shaped like a vertical “pill” rather than a square. Previous rumors claimed that the non-pro iPhone 16 models, which would still only have two cameras (Wide and Ultrawide), would arrange them vertically rather than diagonally. This first case, if correct, would corroborate these assertions.

The cases make the iPhone 16 look similar to the iPhone X, which introduced the vertical rear camera layout. Previously, iPhones either had single camera holes or horizontal camera arrays with two cameras.

It is worth mentioning that this is still the case very early for iPhone 16 cases to appear. Yes, some case makers get certain dimensions from Apple in order to make well-fitting cases and have them on shelves in time for the iPhone launch, but we usually see them leak a month or two before the iPhone’s unveiling. ‘Apple in September.
