The first official look at the full David Corenswet film Superman the costume was revealed by DC Universe boss James Gunn. Discovery. at Gunn Superman The film is currently the only DC Universe film currently being filmed, and it will lay the groundwork for the rebooted franchise.

As filming enters its final months of production, Gunn officially unveiled the Superman costume, as seen worn by Corenswet in the photo below.

First Superman image also teases an alien attack

From the first image, it’s obvious that they’re going for a mix between spandex and armor, more closely resembling Superman’s DC Rebirth costumes, with the cape potentially being similar to that of Superman All-Star. While there has been texture on many previous live-action Superman costumes, this one appears to be more made up of lines while also indicating that it has been in use for some time. Given how exhausted the S-shied looks in this image, it wouldn’t be a shock if this came from a point in the film where Clark Kent has already been in a number of fights.

One of the biggest debates online has been whether or not the DC Universe’s new Superman costume should have the iconic trunks. According to Gunn’s photo, it seems that Corenswet’s Superman will indeed wear underwear, because we see red under his belt. Another classic Superman trait that they also included with Corenswet is the loop, which many DC fans tend to prefer to see with Man of Steel.

The biggest mystery is what is happening in Metropolis behind Superman, as some sort of alien attack is underway. Brainiac having been the subject of many rumors for Gunn’s Superman movie, perhaps this could be a first look at Brainiac’s invasion, although that remains to be seen. Hopefully more glimpses of Superman The costume will be revealed if Gunn and his team end up filming any scenes outside with Corenswet in them – or, if not before, then in the film‘s eventual trailer.

Following Gunn’s official post, Superman started trending on X (formerly known as Twitter) as fans were divided over the new costume. Check out several fan reactions below as DC Universe fans react to Corenswet’s full Superman costume look:

@HawkofKrypton said about Corenswet’s Superman suit compared to previous iterations, “this is one of them 100%”, while adding to the opponents that it is a “A little New 52, a little CW vibe, but kind of wants to be cinematic.”

@Kryptonian_Cafe expressed that even if “David looks phenomenal as Superman” they emphasized that they “I don’t like this costume at all.”

@kittischmitti added that it’s refreshing to see Superman’s costume being “really loose and doesn’t tighten his muscles or anything”, because they feel like they’ve never seen a costume with these elements before.

@Samk0006 I felt it was “Really mind-boggling that a CW production made a better Superman costume” compared to a feature film with a larger budget.

@SupermanEnjoyer is glad the combination was not leaked, saying: “David is superb” and praised the inclusion of trunks while still making the suit comfortable.

@AerithsSeat called Superman’s new costume as resembling “one of the outfits from Guardians 3”, but just repainted.

@nightwaynes appreciated the fact that, just like that of Robert Pattinson The Batman costume, that of Corenswet Superman the costume also has a collar.

@UsUnitedJustice eventually added a comparison to Henry Cavill’s Superman costume, stating that “One actually looks like Superman and the other looks like a cosplayer.”

When it comes to Superman’s costumes in live-action, whether on television or in film, his costume will always be the subject of heated debate within the fandom. The reactions shown above are to be expected, as some will obviously be supportive of what Gunn revealed, while others will have their own expectations of what a Superman costume should look like on the big screen. It’s possible that some of the negative reception will change once they see Corenswet’s costume in action, since there’s only so much a still image can show. For this reason, I hope that the first Superman the trailer will be released relatively soon.
