Embracer Reportedly Close to Selling Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Dev Saber Interactive in $500 Million Deal

Embracer Group, the company behind the closure of Saints Row studio Volition Games and layoffs at companies like Eidos-Montreal and Black Forest Games, is set to sell Saber Interactive, developer of the Star Wars: Knights remake of the Old Republic, according to a new report. Bloomberg report. Embracer is selling the developer to a group of private investors in a deal worth $500 million, a source told the publication.

Once the deal closes, Saber Interactive will be privately held and freed from Embracer, which is behind layoffs spread over the past two years. Following the transaction, the studio will continue work on its remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which it took over as developer after Aspyr Media was removed in 2022.

Bloomberg reports that the sale is another effort by Embracer to cut costs alongside studio closures and layoffs after a planned $2 billion deal with Saudi-backed Savvy Games Group fell through in 2023. The publication writes that one of its sources indicates that the $500 million deal comes with the option for Saber Interactive to also bring in several Embracer subsidiaries.

Saber Interactive is also working on Jurassic Park: Survival, a recently announced first-person game.
