Samsung Health could soon help you better with your medications

TL;DR

  • Samsung Health may soon make it easier to add medications to the Medications feature by allowing you to scan them.
  • It may also soon inform you about drug-allergy interactions, in addition to the current drug-drug interaction warnings.

Samsung Health is Samsung’s health platform, which powers the health tracking features of its Galaxy Watches and, soon, the Galaxy Ring. Samsung’s ambitions for Samsung Health go beyond simple tracking and measurement via its wearables, and we get the impression that the company is aiming for holistic health management. If you’re a regular user of Samsung Health, you’ll be happy to hear about these two upcoming features: Medication Analysis and Drug-Allergy Interaction.

A Teardown of the APK allows you to predict features that might come to a service in the future based on the code being developed. However, these predicted features may not be publicly released.

We have successfully enabled a bunch of new features in the latest Samsung Health app. In the future, users will be able to scan their medications to automatically add certain data such as name, strength (dose in mg), and form (tablet, capsule) to Samsung Health.

Samsung announced medication tracking in December 2023 to help users manage their health more comprehensively. This feature allows users to track their prescription and over-the-counter medications and provides advice on these medications. After entering the names of certain medications in Samsung Health, the Medications feature will provide users with detailed information, including general descriptions and possible side effects.

When launching the feature, Samsung also mentioned that medication tracking would inform users of possible adverse effects that may occur during drug interactions or if taken with certain foods such as caffeine and alcohol.

In the future, Samsung will also expand this feature to notify users about drug-allergy interactions. Users will be able to choose from some common allergies or add their own allergies to the list.

Allergic Drug Interactions with Samsung Health

If the user is using a medication that could potentially cause an allergic reaction, they will be informed in a manner similar to drug interactions.
