What do you want to know

  • Fairphone is launching its new Fairbuds, which feature a “modular design” filled with user-replaceable parts in the event of a breakdown.
  • The Fairbuds feature 11mm drivers with ANC, ENC (environmental noise cancellation), multi-point Bluetooth, and more.
  • Fairphone says users can replace Fairbuds batteries, as well as several other parts, through its online store, available across Europe.
  • Fairbuds begin pre-orders today (April 9) for €149.

Fairphone announces the launch of its “Fairbuds”, which follow in the footsteps of its smartphones in terms of user repairability.

According to a press release, the Android and iOS compatible earbuds are the smaller counterpart of 2023’s Fairbuds XL earbuds. The new earbuds deliver “premium” quality sound thanks to the included 11mm drivers. Fairphone adds that users can enable active noise cancellation (ANC), which includes wind noise reduction, for a richer experience.

Additionally, Fairbuds offer “crystal clear calls” for users indoors and outdoors, thanks to its ENC (environmental noise cancellation) functionality. Speaking of which (no pun intended), the earbuds provide six microphones in total so the device can capture every word. Additionally, Fairbuds offer multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, giving users the ability to connect to two devices at once.

The design of the new Fairbuds is a topic of discussion as Fairphone says the device offers a “modular design” full of user-replaceable parts. Its spec sheet states that the Fairbuds have seven spare parts that users can recover if something goes wrong. Available parts include new earbuds, battery and silicone ring, earbud tips, charging case shell, case core, and case battery.

In case of problems, European users can collect these replacement parts from the Fairphone online store.

The Fairbuds pack a 45mAh battery, while the charging case has a battery capacity of 500mAh. Fairphone says its earbuds can last six hours on a full charge, with an additional 20 hours accommodated in the charging case. As a quick pick-me-up, Fairbuds can gain 1.5 hours of playback in 10 minutes.

The Fairbuds have been given an IP54 rating for sweat and water resistance. The press release states that the heads and cases were created with 70% recycled “fair trade materials.” On the software front, the company says consumers can use their Fairbuds with Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri for hands-free help.

European users looking for the Fairbuds will also get a three-year warranty, which is a one-year extension of the brand’s typical two-year plan.

Consumers across Europe can get their hands on Fairphone’s latest Fairbuds for €149. The headphones are available for pre-order starting today (April 9) on the Fairphone website and at a few selected European retailers. The company states that the price of €149 will vary from country to country in the region. Those interested will find the device in white and black colors.
