  • Google Maps introduces a new way to discover places, no matter how specific, broad, or niche your query may be.
  • The feature uses Google’s LLMs to analyze over 250 million locations and community information.
  • Early access to the feature begins this week for select local guides.

Google continues to find new ways to implement AI into all of its products. The tech giant’s latest AI experiment enables generative AI to help users find places of interest in Google Maps, no matter how specific, broad or niche their query is.

Today, Google announcement it introduces a new way to help you find places you want to go in Google Maps. According to the company, this feature leverages the company’s LLM (big language) models to analyze information on more than 250 million locations and community insights. When used, the feature will provide you with suggestions on destinations you may want to check out.

An example provided by Google is searching for activities to do on a rainy day. If you type “rainy day activities” in the prompt field, it will provide you with recommendations for indoor activities such as comedy shows, movie theaters, etc.

You will also be able to ask follow-up questions that take into account your previous prompt. Let’s say you want to go somewhere with a vintage vibe, the feature will then suggest indoor activities in locations that match that request.

Additionally, says that these results will be organized into categories. Along with these categories, you will be presented with photo carousels and review summaries of these places. And if you like the place you went, you will also be able to save the location to a list and share it with your friends.

Google describes the generative AI feature as an experiment and says it will launch into early access this week in the United States. However, it will only be available to select local guides.
