Google Meet now lets you switch devices during a call

Finally, a long-awaited feature is coming to Google Meet.

Wednesday, Google announcement a new update for its Google Meet video conferencing and calling platform, which allows users to switch devices while connected to a call without interrupting the flow. Essentially, this allows users to seamlessly switch between their desktop and mobile devices without other Google Meet users knowing.

With this update, Google Meet brings a feature to its platform that at least one competitor, Zoom, has had for at least a few years now.

how to use Google Meet’s device swap feature

To swap devices, you must be in an active Google Meet call on desktop or mobile.

Crushable speed of light

Next, open the page for that specific Google Meet on its secondary device. On this page, users will see an option to “Switch here”. Selecting this option will transfer the Google Meet call to their second device, then drop the call on the first device once the transfer is complete.

Google Meet users will even have the option to stay connected on both devices by going to “More Join Options” and choosing “Join Here Too.”

The feature works on desktop computers as well as Android and iOS devices like smartphones and tablets.

This new Google Meet feature makes so much sense, you have to wonder how it didn’t launch years ago when everyone was working from home while juggling home life with kids . But it’s here now. So take advantage of your ability to move around during a Google Meet call if necessary. Nobody will know!
