Indie Showcase Day of the Devs Goes Fully Independent, Announces Fundraiser for Future Shows

Day of the Devs has announced that it has become fully independent and become a non-profit organization through a fiscal sponsorship partnership with planning charity Legacy Global.

Created in 2012 by game developer Double Fine and merchandising company iam8bit, Day of the Devs is a recurring festival that showcases some of the best upcoming indie games via digital and in-person events.

Day of the Devs describes its overall mission as “celebrating the creativity, diversity and magic of video games, giving a voice to emerging or underrepresented talent, and connecting gamers with developers and their games.”

This is achieved through new trailers and playable demos provided completely free to developers and players. The lineup of games featured in recent years included gems like Viewfinder And Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and the festival seems like a fantastic way to help raise awareness of some of the titles on the horizon.

Now that it is fully independent, Day of the Devs has severed ties with Double Fine, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2019. The festival says this will help reaffirm its “commitment to being 100% platform agnostic.”

Along with this news, Devs of Devs also confirmed three Events to come: Day of the Devs 2024: San Francisco Edition, Day of the Devs 2024: GDC Edition and Day of the Devs 2024: GDC Edition. These will take place throughout the year, in a combination of in-person and digital formats.

However, hosting multiple free events isn’t cheap and Day of the Devs has also announced a fundraiser to help operations continue. Those who donate $100 will receive VIP access to two upcoming events in addition to Steam bonus copies of a number of games featured at the festival.

Those who donate $250 or more will receive an additional box of Developer Day merchandise including an official mug, socks, and keychain. You can make a donation or view the full list of rewards on the Developer Day Website.
