Sea Of Thieves heads to PlayStation 5 in April

Sea of Thieves is the latest Xbox game officially confirmed for a new platform. Rare’s shared-world seafaring pirate game is coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30.

Sea of Thieves joins Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded and Pentiment as four cross-platform Xbox titles, each confirmed today. The PlayStation 5 version supports crossplay with Xbox and PC. “What we’ve always been passionate about is the idea that we should remove the barriers that prevent players from playing together,” game director Mike Chapman says in an announcement video below.

As Deputy Design Director Shelly Preston points out in the video, this is the first time in Rare’s nearly 40-year history that a game has been released on PlayStation, which is a significant milestone. Since its initial launch to a lukewarm response in 2018, various updates and expansions have improved Sea of Thieves and fostered a dedicated player community. PlayStation 5 players have the advantage of jumping into a game that is now rich in content from the start.
