A24 announced that it would partner with IMAX for limited screenings of some of its originals. The film studio, launched in 2012, has quickly grown to become one of the industry’s leading production companies, releasing a wide variety of acclaimed films in recent years. Some of his recent releases, like the film directed by Céline Song Past lives And Everything everywhere at the same time, have gained recognition from notable award bodies, the latter winning 7 Academy Awards out of 11 nominations, including Best Picture.


Now, in an effort to offer audiences a different experience, A24 has partnered with IMAX for a new series of monthly screenings that will feature some of its beloved productions. The screening series begins March 27 with Alex Garland’s 2014 sci-fi thriller Ex Machina, plus a sneak peek at Garland’s upcoming film Civil war. This will continue with that of Ari Aster Hereditary on April 27, followed by Uncut gemstones on May 22. Additional dates and films for A24’s IMAX series will be announced at a later date as this continues monthly next year.

Since the creation of A24, its films have rarely been shown in IMAX. However, Everything everywhere at the same timewhich is currently A24’s highest-grossing film with over $140 million in worldwide box office receipts, had already received a special one-night IMAX release in 2022. The release then had to be extended for up to a week due to popular demand.

Apart Everything everywhere at the same timeA24 also partnered with IMAX for a special release of some of its other projects, such as Beau is scared and that of Joel Coen The tragedy of Macbeth, the latter of which received overwhelmingly positive reviews and also received three Academy Award nominations. In both of these cases, the projects received significant buzz due to the big names associated with them. However, the latter film was only shown in IMAX for a single day during a special event.

It has been confirmed that the next screenings will take place staged at more than 300 IMAX locations across the country and select international locations. As previously mentioned, this partnership between A24 and IMAX looks set to be extensive, and as such it will be interesting to see what other beloved A24 the films will hit the big screen in the coming months. Possible contenders include Solicitude, The Green KnightAnd Everything everywhere at the same timegiven its previous success in the format.
