Megan Fox’s cult classic horror comedy gets an exciting updated sequel 15 years later

Jennifer’s body gets an exciting update from Diablo writer Cody, 15 years after its release. The horror comedy follows a possessed high school student, Jennifer Check (Megan Fox), who begins preying on her male classmates, while baffling her childhood best friend, Needy Lesnicki. Alongside Fox, the cast of Jennifer’s body included Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons, Adam Brody, Amy Sedaris and JK Simmons. The film received mixed reactions in 2009, and its disappointing box office performance was seen as the result of inappropriate marketing. However, Jennifer’s body has become a cult classic in recent yearspraised for its feminism and Cody’s storyline.

In a recent interview with Bloody disgustingCody revealed that A Jennifer’s body a sequel may be in the works. She expressed interest in making another film and explained how her feelings about it have changed, now enjoying positive audience reception. Yes! I want to make a sequel. I’m not done with Jennifer’s body. I just need to find…I need to associate with people who believe in it [sic] as much as me and it hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone who believes in it and has a billion dollars. At first I just thought, “Oh, where was this audience when I needed it?” “, then I realized there were… seven. And then people who maybe didn’t like it at the time came along, and now I’m like, “There’s no more salt, Now I’m just happy.”

I mean, it got progressively happier for me. At first, I was obviously excited, but I was also a little salty because I remember thinking, “Well, where was this audience when the movie came out?” It was a critical commercial failure. I was humiliated enough to be perfectly honest with you. It was a difficult experience releasing this film. It was hard for me, it was hard for Megan [Fox]… [then] people suddenly started talking about it like it was a good movie, which is what I always thought it was.

Will Jennifer’s Body 2 actually happen?

Upon liberation, Jennifer’s body failed to resonate with moviegoers, largely because its marketing was aimed at men. Promotional content chose to focus on Fox’s sexual appeal, hiding much of its tone and overall story. Cody mentioned the impact of advertising Jennifer’s body and revealed that early feedback seemed to focus on Fox’s appearance, which explained that public opinion and ongoing speculation about her could have played another role. As audiences, particularly young women, began to revisit the film, many have celebrated its message and agree that Jennifer’s body was ahead of its time.

In 2021, Fox discussed a possible Jennifer’s body continuation, and Cody’s latest comments on the film suggest that something could eventually come together. The ending left Needy’s future wide open, revealing that she developed supernatural abilities and killed Low Shoulder, the group responsible for possessing Jennifer. Although Jennifer died, given the events that happened and her relationship with Needy, Fox’s character could possibly return.

Reception to Jennifer’s body has changed a lot over the years, and a follow-up project currently underway would further prove this. Fox herself has experienced something of a career resurgence with the likes of Thief, until death And Consumables 4.
