This ambitious project will be divided into two chapters, both expected in theaters this year.
Ahead of its first full trailer tomorrow, Warner Bros. released a short teaser on X/Twitter to announce an upcoming trailer. The teaser gives a brief glimpse of the film‘s epic scale alongside its all-star cast. in what promises to be an unforgettable cinematic event. Check out the teaser below:
Horizon: an American saga has enormous potential
While the prospect of an epic two-part western is certainly daunting in today’s cinematic landscape, previous films Costner has directed in the genre have been huge critical and commercial successes. His first feature film as director Dance with wolves led the resurrection of the western genre in the 1990s and won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Costner. His 2003 western Open rangestarring Costner, Robert Duvall and Annette Bening, was a commercial success, grossing over $68.3 million worldwide.
Despite this, Costner is generally remembered as the director of his 1997 post-apocalyptic film. The postman,which was a huge critical and commercial failure. It ultimately won all five Razzies it was nominated for, including Worst Picture. Horizon: an American saga will mark Costner’s first directorial project after 21 years and is a project he has long been passionate about.

If the first two chapters prove successful, Costner plans to make two more films, as he planned to make all four films consecutively. Production on the third film was halted due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but the second chapter was completed in the summer of 2023 before the actors’ strike began. The film is shaping up to be a risky epic that doesn’t come out very often, with the first chapter of Horizon: an American saga will be released on June 28, before the second chapter hits theaters two months later on August 16.
