What do you want to know

  • Nothing Phone 2a receives its first update after its March 5 launch.
  • The update introduces new widgets, cameras, and performance improvements for the company’s first budget phone.
  • There are system-wide stability improvements as well as the addition of new ringtones.

Nothing just revealed the Phone 2a earlier this month, and the company is already rolling out its first update to the device, bringing several performance and camera improvements.

The latest version is called Nothing OS 2.5.3 and is rolling out to the Phone 2a, which brings three new widgets to the home screen: camera, recorders and battery. Camera improvements with the firmware release include support for Ultra XDR, multiple improvements for HDR, color saturation, and selfie camera. The respective native camera app will also see some improvements.

On the other hand, performance improvements include improvements to background application performance; the touchscreen experience will also see some improvements. Haptic feedback features some nifty new tweaks with the addition of new levels. Nothing says that users should also benefit from overall improvements in the UI and animations of Nothing OS 2.5.3.

THE full changelog Additionally presents the latest version’s bug fixes, which include the Pedometer widget resetting issue, which apparently got reset after a time zone change. In some scenarios, app icons appear to have disappeared when unlocking the screen, which is fixed with the latest version.

Likewise, occasional black screen issue on lock screen interface and fingerprint unlock issue (when screen is off) are also fixed.

Other notable improvements in the update include new ringtones, sorted compatibility issues with some charging adapters, improvements to RAW HDR photography, camera-optimized OIS/EIS effects, and optimizations for stability overall system.

The Nothing Phone 2a is the company’s first affordable handset. It features impressive specifications and overall design for its price segment. It is widely available in regions such as the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and India. However, in the United States, consumers must apply as a developer if they want to get one.
