The Boys’ Antony Starr Looks Unrecognizable in ‘Strange’ Homelander Audition Photo

The Boys fans are reacting strongly to an old photo of Antony Starr wearing a suit with his natural hair color, calling the character’s look unrecognizable.

Starr was once best known for his roles on series like Banshee, where he retained his natural dark hair and a scruffy beard.

But today, he’s best known as Homelander, the megalomaniacal, clean-cut, all-American character from The Boys. In the midst of the excitement surrounding Season 4, fans are discussing the physical transformation Starr underwent to play Homelander.

The message, presented on The Boys Subredditshows an old costume fitting image from before the series premiered. In the image, Starr is sporting his natural black hair and a scruffy beard. It’s a far cry from the slicked-back, bleached-blond, clean-shaven look the character typically sports.

“This is really weird,” Digginf said in his post. “No blonde hair, no clean shave.”

“The blonde hair really adds to the overall look, he looks more casual without it,” said one fan addedwith another point out“He looks like Soldier Boy’s son without it.”

Other comments praise how well Starr fits the role, with one fan saying“I’m always amazed at how casting directors sometimes manage to find the right actor for a given role, when the actor is very different from the role he’s supposed to play. They must have a great imagination.”

Starr, for what it’s worth, relishes how different he looks outside of the suit. Speaking to Rolling Stone ahead of The Boys season 4, Starr said“When I have black hair, I go unnoticed 99% of the time. And I like that. I’m very comfortable if I never get that kind of attention.”
