Venom 3 Trailer Leaves Fans Confused About Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Role

The third and final Venom movie is set to hit cinemas this October and now the first official trailer is upon us, but fans have been left confused by a cameo in the new footage.

Venom: The Last Dance is being billed as the end of the Tom Hardy-led trilogy, but Chiwetel Ejiofor’s appearance in the footage has left fans wondering if an MCU crossover could be on the cards.

The actor was previously seen as two iterations of Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange and its sequel, The Multiverse of Madness.

But when he appears in the new Venom 3 trailer, he’s not acting either – and leading a team of government agents tracking down Eddie and Venom.

Additionally, early in the trailer, Eddie and Venom are seen running away from the Mexican bar they visited in one of the post-credits scenes of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which it was suggested that the bar was in the MCU as the owner (Cristo Fernandez) talked about Iron Man, Hulk and Thanos.

At the end of the scene, Venom and Eddie escape, presumably thanks to Doctor Strange’s spell.

But in the Venom 3 trailer, Ejiofor’s soldier captures Venom’s goo at the bar, leading fans to wonder if Venom still takes place in the MCU and not Venom’s universe.

Fans flocked to Twitter, recently renamed X, to express their confusion. in writing: “I’m confused by this shot, how do they get to this bar? The movie clearly takes place in the same universe as Venom 1 and 2 but this bar (and the little Symbiote droplet) exist in the MCU.

Another added: “So you have Chiwetel Ejiofor in Venom 3 as a new character, which takes place in his own universe. But here he’s in the MCU and he’s not playing Baron Mordo, who he previously played in the MCU… and he takes restore the symbiote that remained in the MCU Good job Sony!
