The first thing to clarify about cooperation Rise of the Ronin is that it cannot be used when exploring the open world. This means you can’t bring a friend along to explore, complete the various activities on the map, or complete side missions.

The only times co-op becomes available is when you do specific missions, the first of which is called “Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises”. Whenever you are about to begin a mission that can be done cooperatively, you will first be taken to a preparation screen where you can adjust your equipment and various other settings before you begin. The game will usually provide one or two NPC characters who will be your AI partner in these missions, but you can replace them with your friends or random players if you wish. To do this, select Cooperate then decide whether you want players to join your game or someone else’s.

Groups can consist of a maximum of three players, but you can also limit it to two if you wish. You can either allow anyone to join, friends only, or set a password so that only people you give it to can join. If you choose to join us as a substitute, you will be added to any game with an open slot.

If you want to replay a mission for loot or fun, you can select any of these missions from your Longhouse rest point. Simply select the Recruit in the menu and you will be able to choose the mission you want to replay, as well as all the normal co-op options.
