How to Reconnect Chromecast with Google TV Voice Remote

After its launch in 2020, Chromecast with Google TV quickly became a popular product. This affordable device made it easy to turn any TV into a smart TV, providing access to apps like Netflix, YouTube TV, Spotify, and other popular services. Google continues to update the service as we approach 2024, ensuring that the device works as well today as it did four years ago. You will also now find a 4K and HD model on the market, giving you the opportunity to choose the one that best suits your home theater.

Part of what makes the Chromecast with Google TV so compelling is its voice remote. This allows you to control your TV in different ways, and it’s basically how you operate the entire setup. However, like all electronic devices, the voice remote does not always work as expected. A common problem is that the voice remote disconnects from the Chromecast, preventing you from using it with your TV and turning it into a fancy paperweight. The problem seems to occur randomly – but luckily there is a simple solution.

Here’s how to reconnect Chromecast to Google TV Voice Remote and start enjoying your shows again.

how to Re-Pair a Google TV Remote That Won’t Connect

When the Chromecast is on, it usually automatically pairs with the remote without issue, but this isn’t always the case. The remote and Chromecast communicate with each other via Bluetooth. If your Chromecast can’t find the remote, your TV will chime. This chime indicates that the Chromecast has stopped searching for Bluetooth devices and therefore cannot pair with the voice remote.

If your remote isn’t paired with your Chromecast and isn’t responding, you’ll need to pair it manually.

Step 1: First, make sure your remote’s batteries aren’t dead and are installed correctly.

To put the Chromecast back into pairing mode, press the button on the back of the Chromecast, and this will open pairing mode on the device, which will notify you via your TV screen.

2nd step: If this does not automatically pair with the device, then on the remote press and hold Back + Home buttons simultaneously, without letting go until you see the LED light at the bottom of the remote pulsing. This will put the remote into pairing mode.

Step 3: When you see the LED, press the button Home button on the remote control. The remote should now be paired.

Restart the Chromecast with Google TV

You can try a regular restart of the Chromecast, which will restart the remote pairing process.

Step 1: Unplug the power cable from the Chromecast and wait three seconds. (Make sure to leave the Chromecast plugged into the TV’s HDMI port.)

2nd step: Plug the power cable back into the Chromecast. The Chromecast should start searching for the remote.

Step 3: To make sure your remote works, press a few buttons on the remote.

Step 4: The Chromecast will begin the initial setup process as a new device. Follow this process.

Factory reset Chromecast with Google TV

If these steps don’t work, try the following process instead. Factory resetting doesn’t mean you’ll lose your data, but it does mean that the initial setup of Chromecast with Google TV will happen again from scratch.

Step 1: To begin the reset process, locate the physical reset button on your Chromecast.

While it’s powered on, press and hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The light will start flashing yellow.

2nd step: Continue to hold the button until it turns solid white, then release it. The Chromecast will restart and the reset will be complete. You are now ready to set up your Chromecast again. Once the Chromecast is reset, it will restart the remote setup process. Follow the same remote pairing process above.

You should now have reconnected your Chromecast to the Google TV remote and everything should work fine. If you’re still having issues, you can visit the Google support page for more information.
