Josh Brolin looks back on his time filming The Goonies, revealing a key piece of advice he received from famed director Steven Spielberg. Spielberg expanded on the story for Richard Donner’s 1985 adventure film, in which Brolin played one of the titular children who set off in search of a long-lost, treasure-filled shipwreck. Brolin explained that although he began to delve deeper into the potential symbolism behind a moment in The GooniesSpielberg asked him to “Just act” and focus on depicting what was happening at the moment, hoping that it might encourage him to give his best. It was a really innocent, really fun time, and I thought that was how movies were made and that wasn’t the case. I remember coming to see Spielberg at one point, because I was reading Stanislavski, and even though he didn’t realize it, he was there almost every day and I said to him, “Hey, you don’t Don’t you think that these tunnels are like my mother’s womb, and that, like, I’m scratching to get out of the womb, and that I need to be born again?” But that’s different, no matter what I said .

And he looked at me and he said, “Act.” And I was like, “I know, but…” And he wasn’t being rude, he was just like, “Don’t make it too complicated.” Just get in there, look around, listen to people and do your shopping. “


The Goonies introduced the world to many future stars


Brolin is not the only member of the Goonies casting to become a famous star in the 39 years since its release.
