Karen Gillan on possible DCU role: ‘I want to work with James Gunn again’

Karen Gillan became a crucial part of the MCU after starring as Nebula in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films – and now the former Doctor Who star could be eyeing a role in the director’s rebooted DC Universe .

Gunn is currently co-head of DC Studios and is rebooting the comic book franchise, starting with Superman 2025 (previously titled Superman: Legacy) which is now in production and will star David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult in leading roles.

Karen Gillan as Nebula Marvel Studios

Gillan has previously expressed interest in playing classic Batman foe Poison Ivy in a future DC film – something that has understandably captured the imagination of fans everywhere – and in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reportershe was asked if she had flooded Gunn with requests to play the character.

“The fact that Nebula turned into 10 years of work is the greatest thing that has happened to me,” she replied.

“So I like to leave things to the universe a little bit and see what happens, but I would love to work with James again. He’s the best.”

She added at the time: “Honestly, if James asked me to play an alien who sits in the background of a shot and doesn’t speak, I’d say yes. [laughs]. Because working with him has been one of the great joys of my career so far.”

Gillan will next be seen in mystery thriller Sleeping Dogs alongside Russell Crowe, while she will also star alongside Hugh Bonneville and fellow Doctor Who alum Alex Kingston in Steven Moffat’s upcoming ITVX comedy-drama Douglas is Canceled, which will arrive later in 2024.
