As soon as A day debuted on Netflix last month (February 8), people have become obsessed with the gripping story of Emma and Dexter, they won’t like it. Based on the bestselling novel by David Nicholls, the standalone series has won over a whole new legion of fans who can’t get enough of the two adorable Edinburgh graduates and their 20-year saga.

However, while both characters are popular online, there is also a huge gap in the extent to which people criticize Emma and Ambika Mod’s performance on the TV show compared to Dexter and Leo Woodall’s performance. Now, Ambika criticizes the response and explains how the negative reaction towards Emma affected her.

Discussing the negativity towards her and Emma with CharmAmbika said: “It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the last few weeks, because I haven’t just seen it in terms of Emma and Dexter. The romance genre can be a double-edged sword. For Pendant For a long time, it wasn’t a respected genre because it was primarily aimed at women.”

Ambika further explained, “It always seems like it’s the male characters, the male leads and the male actors who are elevated after doing a romantic comedy, and it’s the female characters who don’t get the same recognition, who don’t don’t. get the same elevation. This is a really twisted double standard that shouldn’t be the case.

Ambika added, “There was no doubt in my mind that people would fall in love with Dexter and they would fall in love with Leo. But as a woman, as a woman of color, playing this character, I “I had a lot more to prove and I received a lot more criticism than him.”

Regarding how Emma is judged for having an affair on the show, but Dexter isn’t judged as harshly, Ambika said, “It’s the double standard…. Like Dexter did. a lot it’s worse than Emma. We don’t see him apologizing! Like, he’s done terrible thing. We never really see him apologize or take this into account, and no one expects that of him. »

She ended by saying, “I guess these are the same people who said Emma should apologize, who also said, ‘I love Dexter. I love him so much.’ Once again, it’s this double standard that seeps into everything.”

As for whether Ambika discussed attending therapy, she said, “Yes, definitely. Absolutely, I did.”
