The Google Wallet campaign continues with the addition of 30 new banks in the United States.

What do you want to know

  • Google added support for 30 US banks to the Google Wallet app in March, bringing the total number of supported banks to more than 5,000.
  • This decision follows the addition of around a hundred new banks to Google Wallet in December and January.
  • The growing base of Google-supported banks in Google Wallet comes as the company plans to shut down Google Pay in the United States.

Google Wallet adds new features every month and becomes Google’s leading banking and digital wallet app on Android. The company previously announced that Google Pay would officially shut down on June 4, 2024, at least in the United States. Before the forced transition, Google is ensuring that as many banks as possible are supported in Google Wallet. In March, that meant adding 30 new banks to the Google Wallet app in the United States.

Google has made steady progress adding supported banks to the Google Wallet app in the United States. It integrated 42 new banking institutions in January and 44 banks joined it in December 2023. Now, as shown in a Google Support Page and discovered for the first time by Android Fontthere are 30 more new arrivals to the Google Wallet app.

Below is the full list of banks added to the Google Wallet app this month, including financial institutions from 14 different US states. People who use these banks can now add digital bank cards to the Google Wallet app for Android.

You’ll immediately notice that many of these banks are smaller and you may not have even heard of them before. In fact, six First Farmers & Merchants branches are part of the total of 30 new banks added to Google Wallet in March. This is partly because almost all major US banks are already supported by Google Wallet. In total, more than 5,000 banks in the United States work with Google Wallet.

However, it is important for Google to continue working with smaller local banks to integrate them into the Google portfolio. Not everyone uses a major bank, so integrating these niche institutions is essential to making Google Wallet ubiquitous among Android users.

Beyond credit cards, Google is actively adding support for new features in the Google Wallet app. It previously announced plans to add more supported U.S. state ID cards this year. More recently, Google made it possible to use Apple Wallet passes in the Google Wallet app.
