Quality, reliable smartwatch options are rare on the market, and Fossil’s recent exit from the space will make them even rarer. Fortunately, at least Xiaomi seems to be stepping up its efforts to fill the void in some markets. A new leak indicates that the company is preparing to launch the Xiaomi Watch 2 in Europe, with Wear OS.
Winfuture has shared a lot of information about the Xiaomi Watch 2. According to the report, the Xiaomi Watch 2 is expected to come with a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with 466 x 466 resolution, always-on mode, and a relatively large bezel. (which apparently isn’t as noticeable at first glance). What would set the Watch 2 apart from the Watch 2 Pro is the lack of a rotary dial.
On the inside, the Xiaomi Watch 2 sports the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1 SoC with a power-efficient co-processor. Xiaomi would boast a battery life of 65 hours, or a little less than three days. This is impressive considering the Watch 2 would run Wear OS, with Google apps like Google Wallet, Google Maps, Play Store, and more.
Other main features and specifications would be 5 ATM water resistance, 150 different sports modes, sleep monitoring, speed measurement, blood oxygen measurement, heart rate measurement and step counting.
Unfortunately, it looks like the company is only planning to release a Wi-Fi variant, as no LTE version has been spotted for the vanilla Watch 2. Other connectivity specs include Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GPS, and GNSS.
The price of the Xiaomi Watch 2 would be between €200 and €220 (~$215 to $237) depending on the countries in Europe. The Watch 2 will reportedly come in black and silver cases with matching straps.
Xiaomi confirms the launch of a watch for MWC 2024
Although the leak does not mention the timeline for the official launch of the Watch 2, Xiaomi has confirmed that its MWC 2024 showcase will feature a smartwatch.
It is safe to assume that the company will officially launch the Xiaomi Watch 2 at the event. Xiaomi’s teaser also indicates that we could see a tablet, a robot vacuum cleaner and Xiaomi’s car also debut at MWC 2024.
