Ariana Grande talks about her new album Eternal Sunshine

Ariana Grande has recently faced public scrutiny regarding her relationship with Ethan Slater.

Ariana Grande responded to tabloid rumors about her and revealed what it’s like to see people “misunderstand” her.

In 2023, Ariana Grande filed for divorce from ex-husband Dalton Gomez and began dating Broadway star Ethan Slater. Despite Page six confirming that Ariana and Ethan only started dating when they were both single, rumors about the two stars quickly spread, with people criticizing Ariana for dating someone who was married when she met him for the first time.

Ariana later alluded to the backlash in an Instagram story in which she said, “I’ve never felt […] so deeply misunderstood by people who don’t know me, who gather whispers, make what they want of me and their assumptions about my life. She also called out people for judging who she dates in her No. 1 single ‘Yes’.

Today, Ariana is waking up to tabloid culture and how women are judged without any “room for nuance.”

Talk to Zach Sang about the negativity she experienced, Ariana said: “We know this about the tabloids and the media. We selectively remember that this is what the tabloids do to people, especially women, depending on whether we like the person or not. We selectively leave space for humanity, for nuance.

Ariana then added, “They don’t leave space for it, well they do it for their friends and family, it’s selective. They turn it off when it fits a version of a person that they have in their head and they want to believe it’s true.”

Appearing to refer to her relationship with Ethan, Ariana then said: “We don’t need to go into detail, but of course there is an insatiable frustration, an inexplicable, hellish feeling in seeing people misunderstand the people you love, you and anything.”

Ariana also confirmed that her album would address people’s perception of her as well as her real life. She said: “I’m so nervous because elements touch on things that are real and some elements are also part of the concept.”

She finished by saying, “It’s so scary to leave it up to these selective memory people to decipher.”
