How to Unpair an Apple Watch: Reset Your Smartwatch in a Few Simple Steps

There are many reasons why you might want to unpair your Apple Watch. Maybe you have a new one and are looking to sell or trade in your old smartwatch. Or maybe you’re giving your old model to someone.

Whatever your reason, it’s not too difficult to unpair your Apple Watch. Apple itself has a page dedicated to unpairing your Apple Watch in just a few steps. But – and this is important – as the tech giant notes on its page, unpairing your Apple Watch will erase it. This will effectively be a factory reset, so take note of that.

Here are the steps.

Step 1: Make sure your Apple Watch and iPhone are close to each other

This is self-explanatory, but make sure there isn’t much distance between your phone and your watch.

Step 2: Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone

Again, this step is simple to understand.

Step 3: Click My Watch, then select All Watches.

This will reveal all the watches you have paired with your phone.

Step 4: Select the “i” information button next to the watch you want to unpair.

This will bring up the following page which you need to unlink.

Step 5: Tap the red “Unpair Apple Watch” button

Again, make sure this is what you want to do, since this will reset your watch to factory settings.

Step 6: Confirm which Apple Watch you want to unpair, then decide on a mobile decision

Apple will make sure you want to unpair a specific watch. You will select ungroup. Next, you will be asked if you want to keep your cellular plan under surveillance. If you keep the watch and plan to use it again, you can keep the plan. If you plan to trade it in or sell it, you can unlink the cellular plan.

Step 7: Enter your Apple ID password to complete the unlink.

If you’ve forgotten your Apple ID password, it’s easy to reset it.

This is the easiest way to unpair your Apple Watch, and it shouldn’t take more than five minutes to complete the entire process. If you can’t locate the iPhone the watch is paired with, you can factory reset the watch to finish the job. Apple has the exact stepsbut actually you will go to your watch settings and then reset them.

However, it’s probably best to reset using your phone. When you unpair a watch on your iPhone, a backup is created to save your content and settings. You can then use this backup to restore a new Apple Watch. And like that, you will return to normal.
