LittleBigPlanet 3 PlayStation 4 servers are offline “indefinitely,” erasing millions of user-created levels.

THE Little big planet X account / official Twitter of the series confirmed the newsbriefly explaining why the game‘s servers were initially taken offline in January of this year.

“Due to ongoing technical issues which resulted in LittleBigPlanet 3 “PS4 servers will be temporarily taken offline in January 2024,” the message reads, “the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely. All online services including access to other players’ creations for LittleBigPlanet 3 are no longer available.”

The message, however, confirms that user-created content uploaded to PlayStation 4 consoles will remain playable. Players can still create their own content but will not be able to share it. Lately, LittleBigPlanet 3 offline features – including its campaign mode – are still playable.

This is actually a sort of final nail in the coffin for the Little big planet series. The original trilogy’s PS3 servers have been offline for several years, and now the third game‘s PS4 servers have followed suit. Fans of the series can still discover the excellent Sackboy: a great adventure on PS5 if they are looking for a little Little big planet charm, even if it lacks the creative features that put the franchise on the map.

Naturally, people on social media aren’t happy with the decision, criticizing Sony’s decision while sharing fond memories of gaming and creating levels throughout the series. It’s incredibly disheartening to see millions and millions of lovingly created levels, to which I’m sure many fond memories are attached, disappear forever.

Until we have better protections in place for digital content, it is almost certain that more large-scale server outages will occur in the near future. LittleBigPlanet 3 is just one example among many in recent years.
