Victoria Monét has written songs on every one of Ariana Grande’s albums to date.

Victoria Monét shut down comparisons between her and Ariana Grande after accusations Ariana stole her “sound.”

Fans of Victoria Monét and Ariana Grande will already know that the two stars are close friends and collaborators. Victoria first worked with Ariana on her debut album Your humble servant. Victoria also co-wrote several of Ariana’s biggest songs to date, including “Thank U, Next,” “7 Rings” and “Positions.” Not to mention they sang together on hits like “Monopoly.”

The two artists regularly shout out and support each other online and offline. However, some people have accused Ariana of copying Victoria’s sound with her music and Victoria has now responded to these claims in a new interview.

Talk with CosmopolitanVictoria said: “It’s weird that people compare us and are surprised that a song sounds like something I wrote – because I wrote it. If the roles were reversed, if Ariana was first a songwriter, you might find me trying to give a whistle or something. It’s a moot point for me, so I’m just letting the internet do its thing.

In other words, sure, you can hear Victoria in Ariana’s music – she’s an integral part of it – but both artists each have their own take on the things they bring to their own music.

In a separate interview with Variety, Victoria praised Ariana for always encouraging her. She said: “I am very grateful because [Ariana] because a friend had done so much to put my name in people’s mouths and make sure she credited everyone who wrote for her.”

However, she added that she was done with Ariana’s questions. She said: “But in interviews I just want to talk about my artistry and they’re like, ‘What’s Ariana’s favorite color?'”

As for what she wants fans to take away from her music, Victoria told Cosmopolitan: “When people sing along to my music, I want them to manifest great things in their lives. You can sing or speak for yourself making a way through difficult times and going around in circles. A new leaf.”

Victoria was recently nominated for an incredible seven Grammys at the 2024 Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year for her Top 40 hit single “On My Mama” and Best New Artist. Pretty legendary if you ask me!
