Infidelity is not uncommon among humans. A new study now shows in which countries cheating is most common.

According to the results, infidelity is most widespread in the United States. Nearly three quarters of people living there (71%) have had at least one affair in their life. In the United States, married people were also often unfaithful during their marriage (50%). The majority of relationships take place either with work colleagues or close friends. On average, cases last about two years. If they are discovered in a marriage, divorce occurs in most cases (66%).

High levels of infidelity in Germany and Co.

Besides the United States, people in Germany and other European countries are especially often unfaithful. Affairs are the rarest in Iceland (9%), which scientists say is also due to the fact that the island has a very small population and therefore there are fewer opportunities for cheating .

Causes of infidelity

The study also shows the most common possible causes. Men often cheat because they want to have sex more often or are looking for variety (44%), while women often start affairs for emotional reasons (40%), such as because they lack sex. attention from their partner in their committed relationship. A comprehensive study conducted by the University of Maryland (UMD), which examined the main motives for cheating, also came to similar results.
